Since 2006 The Georgian Centre for Psychosocial and Medical Rehabilitation of torture victims – GCRT is providing psychological assistance to juvenile prisoners. In 2010 GCRT started piloting program EQUIP, developed for juveniles serving a prison term. The program conceptualizes antisocial behavior as a result of the deficiency in social skills, delay of socio-moral development and cognitive distortions. Research was conducted to evaluate the program effectiveness. The result shows statistically significant difference between the scores before and after the program; the philosophy of the program, results of the research as well the barriers and challenges in the process of its implementation will be presented. Apart from this the general context of the juvenile prison and recent developments towards introduction of a humane juvenile justice policy will be discussed.
