Denise Chu

As a Senior Clinical Psychologist, Denise Chu has worked with adults presenting with severe mental illness in both inpatient and community mental health settings within the Western Sydney Local Health District since the late 1990s. She was part of a team of clinicians who initiated the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program at Cumberland Hospital in 1999 for outpatients presenting with severe difficulties in emotion regulation and who were frequent users of emergency and crisis mental health services.  She has participated in extensive training in DBT, including the 10-day DBT Intensive and DBT Masterclass workshops with Linehan’s Behavioral Tech trainers.  She is currently a core member of the DBT Therapists’ Consult Team within the Adult Mental Health Service and consults to the DBT Program run by the Prevention, Early Intervention and Recovery Service in WS Local Health District. She is also engaged in research investigating the neurobiological effects of childhood trauma exposure in adults with and without diagnosed mental illness.
