Sense of Coherence among Systemic Family Therapist trainees

Professor Claude-Helene Mayer

Sense of coherence (SOC) is one of the founding concepts in salutogenesis. SOC is a basic life-orientation and has recently been proposed as a meta model for salutogenic family therapy. Often, research focuses on SOC in patients or clients undergoing systemic family therapy. Only a few studies have focused on SOC among therapists, and hardly any study presents findings on trainees in professional family therapy institutions. This study aims at exploring the SOC among systemic family therapist trainees in Germany and its development over a period of two years by focussing on SOC and selected demographical variables.
