Outcome Evaluation of a Brief Group Intervention for Avoidant Personality Disorder.

This paper reports on the effectiveness of a brief cognitive-behavioural group therapy intervention for over 50 clients who met DSM -IV criteria for Avoidant Personality Disorder. All clients had initially been offered at least three individual therapy sessions prior to joining a “Taking a Step Forward Group” which typically varied between six and ten therapy sessions.

Chris Mackey

Chris Mackey has over 30 years clinical experience including, 10 years as a Senior Clinical Psychologist at the Geelong and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospitals. He offers psychotherapy to adults and adolescents for difficulties including, anxiety, depression, anger reactions and marital problems. Chris specialises in assisting people’s recovery from post-traumatic stress including, complex trauma reactions.

Over the past 15 years he has been interested in evaluating the effectiveness of therapy interventions in real-world settings such as, hospital and private practice settings. Chris has presented at national and international conferences and received the 2001 and 2002 Practitioner's Award, from the Australian Association for Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (Vic. Branch), for his research demonstrating the effectiveness of his therapy interventions for trauma reactions.

Chris also consults with individuals and organizations about applying positive psychological strategies to enhance business and organizational success.
