Engaging with the ‘Adolescent in Turmoil’ in General Practice

Dr Catherine Fraser

Adolescence is a challenging time of life, when many young people may need help and guidance from general practitioners. The tasks of adolescence can be overwhelming for some: becoming clear of one’s identity, developing independence, facing issues regarding sexuality, making choices and preparing for direction in their adult lives. Dr Fraser believes the exploratory and imaginative qualities of adolescence can be harnessed to help adolescents understand the strengths and qualities that they can use to find their way forward.

This recorded live web-cast has been organised by the Australian College of Psychological Medicine.  The ACPM would like to express appreciation to the Central Sydney General Practice Network for financial support provided to assist in the production of this webcast.

Dr Catherine Fraser

Dr Cathy Fraser worked in general practice for 20 years, with a special interest in psychological medicine, before making the change to practice psychotherapy exclusively 6 years ago. She has a growing interest in adolescent mental health in her private practice in Sydney.
In this webcast, Cathy will draw on her experience as a GP to make this relevant to the general practice setting. She will share what she has learned from her own experience, both as a GP and a psychotherapist, focusing on ideas and strategies she has found useful to engage and assess adolescents in turmoil.
