Utopia/Dystopia: the inner world of DID

Dr Catherine McGrath

Utopia has been the ideal society yearned for by humanity while caught in a reality that can seem more a crushing dystopia. The reaction against social disruption and loss of identity can lead to paranoid, apocalyptic world views or an escape into longing for paradise. How can this double response shed light on the inner world of severe dissociative disorders, which can be thought of as containing trauma and desire. A major focus in the paper will be the clinical process.
