Integrating counselling and acupuncture to support the healing of trauma of a Sudanese Woman

An integral therapy of counselling and acupuncture has been proven to be one of the effective treatments in managing pain with trauma survivors.

In this case study presentation, acupuncture has been provided to a Sudanese woman who is a refugee survivor of torture and trauma. The client presented to STARTTS suffering from chronic pain. An integrated approach using counselling and acupuncture resulted in positive therapeutic outcomes.

Thuy Tran

Thuy Tran has been working at STARTTS as a Vietnamese Bicultural counsellor for the last 9 years. She has completed a bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine at University of Technology. She is currently studying her post-graduate Masters in acupuncture research with UTS. She has widely used the integration of counselling with acupuncture at STARTTS, treating clients from various communities for pain management.
She has passion to explore and provide acupuncture treatment with different refugee population.
