Psychological surviving of natural disasters

Shahram Dehbozorgi

Almost everyone has been through a stressful event in his / her life. When the event or series of events causes a lot of stress, it is called a traumatic event. Traumatic events are marked by a sense of horror, helplessness, serious injury or the threat of serious injury or death. Traumatic events affect survivors, rescue workers and the friends and relatives of victims who have been involved. Natural disasters have the power to destroy thousands of lives very quickly. Both as they unfold and in the aftermath, these faces of nature astonish the rest of the world with their incredible devastation and magnitude. There are several physical, psychological and social consequences when disasters strike. How severely people are affected by the trauma depends on several factors. Natural disasters like earthquake are traumatic events outside the normal experience of people. It affects not only individuals, but communities as a whole. When a disaster occurs, the effects are far reaching. During a time when resources are dedicated to basic survival needs, it becomes very important for all who are affected to care for their own mental health. Therefore, according to the importance of the matter, I decided to do this research. So, I thought about psychological self - help factors and finally, the result showed that psychological hardiness, ego - resiliency and attachment style are very valuable in this case and they can play an important role for rescuing people from natural disasters
