In the course of a psychotherapy research, researchers observed a significant loss of data by the therapists during the sessions, who often forgot to collect the necessary data and make recordings. In order to know the therapists perspective on research, data collection process, and factors that affect the commitment of therapists in the research, two focus groups were conducted around the following questions: How do you felt in the research?, What facilitated your participation in research?, What hinder your participation in research?, and Why do you think a client may refuse to participate in research? The results show negative aspects such as the rejection of the research methodology, conceptual and technical difficulties and fear of negative evaluation by the therapist, fear of breaking the client confidentiality, conflicting relationships in clinical training, availability of the therapist and offices.
The positive aspects were the interest and cooperation by the therapist, the client motivation to change, support relations between researchers and psychotherapists, and the availability of equity research (inventories, protocols, and recorders). It suggests to work about the consolidation of the culture of research in training clinics, to be an axis to work perceptions about research (the reducing biases regarding the research to be developed), monitoring protocols (education and knowledge) and training (emphasis on research practice, as so as to be evaluated about this topic, and decreasing levels of anxiety when the therapist is trying to answer tests).
