The Assyrian community in NSW is rapidly changing and growing in the Sydney region. This case study will examine key factors and processes for (re)building a community that has experienced loss, uprooting and trauma. Lina Ishu’s presentation will show how Assets Based Community Development approaches contributed to connecting young people to opportunities and services for meaningful youth involvement in social change. In addition to review community asset mapping, the pivotal role of the Community Worker at the local level to link people together is also considered. Finally, lessons will be drawn for effectively harnessing community strengths and seeking to achieve positive outcomes for individuals, families and society.
