The Conversational Model as developed by Russell Meares has, as its core, the relationship between the patient and the therapist, and the use of that relationship to heal the patient. While it is generally assumed that it is the patient/client who undergoes a process of change during the course of therapy, it is certainly implicit in the model that the therapist will be affected by the therapy as well, especially when that therapy is long-term.
This talk, based on a research paper looking at the professional and personal impact on therapists who work with patients/clients requiring long term therapy, examines the effects on the working life and the private life of therapists.
