Child and adolescent

This section deals with the emotional understanding and working with children, adolescents and their families. While the presentations have a broad psychodynamic perspective, other ways of thinking about children, adolescents and their families are also presented.
This section concentrates upon different ways of conceptualising or understanding emotional development and functioning from birth to young adulthood.
Another focus is on the technical issues and difficulties encountered in clinical work with children, adolescents and their families. Issues such as engaging children and adolescents in therapeutic work, the role of play with the different age groups, the use of interpretation and insight in child and adolescent therapy, and work with parents and families are examined.
Outside of the clinical environment, presentations concerning the application of emotional understanding of children and adolescents to other setting such as preschool, schools and hospitals are offered.
This section also deals with the role of informing the general public about the emotional needs of children and adolescents.
