The Polyvagal Theory provides a new perspective of the relation between the nervous system and behaviour that expands our understanding of normal and atypical behaviour, mental health  (e.g., coping with stress and depression) and psychiatric disorders (e.g., autism, PTSD).  This new perspective directs clinicians to apply new inovative biologically-based behavioural strategies such as Gray's "Restorative Movement Psychotherapy" practice with survivors of trauma and patients with other psychiatric disorders.
